Hi, Krysta, I work part time from home and so I keep a loose schedule to make sure that I get my work done. I set my alarm during the week and tend to wake up at the same time. For me at 7:30, but then I don’t go to sleep until 1130 or so. Even when I worked, I often worked from home and had a lot of flexibility in my schedule. I have meetings and commitments, but it’s been 20 years since I’ve had to go into the office every day, I think that in itself allows for a lot of flexibility. I think the question for me is not as much. what schedule do I keep as what routine do I follow? I would like to be a little bit more rigid about when I have my meals and when I get exercise and so forth. It’s easy for those things to fall away without having them set on a schedule. But I very much appreciate the flexibility I have..

I love my flexibility as well and over time I am finding it easier to let go of some of the structure I used to need. It is certainly is different to live without strict deadlines....I do, however, like it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I appreciate it!

This is an interesting topic, and I'm interested in reading the comments. I'm always on deadlines -- either set by work or self-imposed -- and would like to find strategies for not feeling ruled by them.

Hopefully something we share will help you. For me, I have found having a schedule or routine makes all the difference in handling deadlines As you know, I worked and lived by deadlines for over 30 years and I could not have done it without my routines!

Krysta, your comment now reminds me of "rituals" and I realize some of what used to be routine actions have become rituals...feeling sacred, such as time in the garden doing fall cleanup. Who said "change the way you look at things and the way you look at things will change?" Maybe Wayne Dyer.

Wayne said that and it is so true!!!

I was used to having to comply with other people's schedules for my career in law. But now I do what I feel like when I feel like it. So I am like your friends who sometimes don't get out of their pyjamas. But it's often that I don't do those routine things because I have my head stuck in some writing project or other and I just don't notice that lots of time has gone by. So although i have no particular schedule, I still end up doing lots of things but more by reason of my own wish to go with the flow than according to any predetermined schedule. And there are still some things you have to do on time - eg tax returns, or attending that interesting zoom discussion or going to the dentist. Be happy and have fun. Rosemary

I can relate to this....I have to remember that I am doing the things I want to do and some of that happens at the same time most days --- and that is okay! I don't feel bound by it...Thanks for sharing!

It has been many years since I had to comply with a corporate schedule, specific wake up times, deadlines etc. I "accidentally retired" when it made more sense (cents) for me to use my skills on the home front managing and giving care to family elders. That in itself eased me out if rigidity as it truly was a one day at a time deal.

Now that I am a senior and still blessed to be active and mostly healthy, I wake up every day feeling grateful that I get to flow with my own circadian rhythms.

However, as you spoke my mind jumped to the word "routine" which seems like a type of schedule but more on my terms. Some of my routines feel non negotiable such as get enough exercise or eating nutritionally dense foods that are also delicious, meditation, , reading/listening to mentors, service to others, to name a few. My body and mental health gives me feed back fairly quickly when I get off balance in these areas.

I recall that during the corporate driven years I had to schedule in time for myself, even putting it on my to do list. I still do that when I notice myself putting too many inconsequential tasks and the wants of others ahead of taking care of myself. So yes, I guess there is still some scheduling going on but now it feels more divinely led for the most part.

I am enjoying this one Krysta and the responses. I have a loose plan for today and grateful I could take time to process your query.♥️

Thanks, Nan, I truly appreciate your sharing and I also feel like a lot of what I'm talking about is y routine rather than a schedule. And I think most of what is "routine" for me is good stuff and things I want to do! I an also enjoying reading what other have to say! Very helpful!
